2 in one day!

can you tell i'm enjoying my time off??? ;-)
i've still not got my camera issues resolved, so i scanned a few details of one of the piece i've been working on today.... a collaged piece on some of my rusted fabric....this one has screens
of various headlines/bits adn pieces of columns and letters to the editor.....i've been inhaling the times picayunne online since the storms adn just bought a couple of books...one written by one of the tp/s columnists...who has captured life since so wonderfully in words pictures aren't even needed...(tho there are some...) check out his book here http://chrisrosebooks.com/
some of his latest columns are at http://www.nola.com/living/t-p/rose/index.ssf?archive

and while i'm on links, i found this last night!! i jsut wish i coudl read it and respond!

blog-iversary

looks like my blog-iversary was yesterday. who coudl have imagined a year ago we'd be in the shape we're in today? i wonder how the storms and the changes in life down here have affected my work....(aside from the obviousl pieces abtou them....) and then i see this juxtaposition of new pieces next to photographs of the mess adn maybe there is a link there after all.....
it's eerily reminiscent of the infamous barge in the 9th ward.
tho i printed these screens b4 we went down there i guess this whole scenario is lurking in the background whether you're aware of it or not.
who knows what the next year will bring?

postcards

saturday was postcard day! i had a blast...
here are a few... will post more when i get home from work.

in person

we went to the 9th ward in new orleans yesterday while in town. we've all seen the pictures....but seeing it in person just leaves you speechless. and then there are the aspects of it that you don't get in a photo. my eyes started burning to the point of tearing up before we had even crossed the bridge. this was in a closed car...adn almost SIX months later. visually, it was a great big kick in the gut. cars on top of houses, under houses, upright jammed against houses. roofs on the ground with nothing under them. houses moved off their foundations.....all the things you know happened....but seeing them in person was such a different experience. at one point i got out to photograph a piece of fence buried in the debris. i stood there looking at that pile for minutes as i slowly began to get a sense of the scope of it...and idetify things....it was only then that i realized there was a CAR under the pile i was looking at. it was a very humbling experience adn my heart goes out even more to all the residents of that area....we took some photos , not a lot. and looking at them i realize how little information they convey compared to the immense scope of it. and this is 6 months out.
here are a couple :

another acceptance!

one of my goals this year was to get back out into the art world ....the last year or so i was either solely focused on school or life after school.....it feels good to be able to get a little more balanced.
i got an acceptance into the LSU 20x20 compact : a national juried exhibit (all media) .....the requirement is work must be under 20" (sculpture can have one dimension larger). so i'm thrilled that my sculpture beginnings will be there! it's silk burlap stretched and hand stitched over a copper *fence-in-the-round* armature..inside hangs a large gorgoues mother of pearl bead...
this past weekend was one of the first weekends i was able to devote my time almost solely to working in the studio... it was great! worked on soem things in progress....and started on some new postcards....still need to get my camera situation squared away so i have NEW px to show!
hope everyone has a great day.

a waste of time??

i spent much of the day yesterday playing with images on the puter.....instead of doing all those other things i Should have been doing: cleaning house, (ick) going for a walk, etcetc. then i spent the rest of the day beating myslef up for *wasting* all that time.... however a little stroll thru some of my old files makes me realize this morning it's not so bad! i've had a thing for trees for quite a while....here are a few examples....
THEN i will get to work doing the rest of the things i need to do...as well as getting back up here to translte some of these ideas and images into fabric........

Your Hidden Talent
You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system. And while this may not seem big, it can be.It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes. You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices.
