some local inspiration

i stopped and took these photos on the way back up the bayou the other day. i have always loved this spot along the bayou where the row of pilings goes on and on for quite a while....
there's something very calming and centering to me about this repetition.....
time to get back to fences i guess!

post its at the camellia grill

we went to new orleans this afternoon to bring my niece. kate, to stay with a friend overnight before she heads back to california and stopped at the camellia grill on the way in to view the post it notes covering the front doors adn windows, begging for it to re-open. it's an old new orleans diner that has not re-opened since the storm, much to the regret of LOTS of people, me included. some of the notes were poignant. some funny. my favorite was **cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger*, signed belushi. the post its were once brightly colored. now they're faded and dull.
i just can't imagine new orleans without it. i still remember when it was abtou the only place you could eat at night uptown. it was The place to go to get a late night meal after a night out,
and is sadly missed.

finally some ART!

my niece, kate, and i went to the chauvin sculpture garden this afternoon.. and had a wonderful time. i don't care how many times i go i see new things each time...i'm continously in awe of the
powerful images that he created. this is one of the best kept secrets around, i think, and certainly one of the best sites of outsider art in the country. the sculptures are placed so closely together it's very difficult to get good overall shots. so we took lots of detail photos today. the expressive qualities he captured in cement just blow me away. you can read the story online but essentially no one really knows what the figures signify. (except the artist). the exhibit as a whole provides much food for thought.
we had a great time, till kate realized she was getting ant bit! after that we decided to go home....tho we may go back if we have time.....
enjoy.
